Halsey McKay is pleased to present Desert Paintings, Hilary Pecis’ second solo exhibition with the gallery.  In this selection of new works, Pecis draws from snapshots taken on a recent trip through the southern California desert. The hotel pool, a Mexican restaurant, a cactus bloom, lottery tickets, and a variety of sunblock all serve as starting points for her acrylic paintings. These everyday objects and vacation scenes are chosen to serve as opportunities for explorations in paint handling, color, line and pattern recognition.  Outtakes from Anza-Borrego, the Salton Sea, Palm Springs and Joshua Tree, with its landscape full of fleeting blooms, are granted saturated life in these visually stunning, modest memorials.
